Sightseeing in Calicut may include a visit to some of the Moppila mosques which are distinguished by their typically Keralan multi-tiered roofs. Mananchira Square is at the centre of Calicut and surrounds the Mananchira tank. This tank was once used as the private bath of the Samuthiris. The square today houses important structures such as Commonwealth Trust Factory, Town Hall, Lalitkala Academy Hall, Jama'atpalli Mosque and Muchhandipalli Mosque, the oldest in Kerala. The Kozhikode beach has two very old piers and a lighthouse which are worth a visit. This is a good place to watch the sunset over the horizon. Sometimes at this beach it is possible to glimpse dolphins out in the sea by the Dolphin Point in the distance. Calicut is a good place to stay when travelling on to Wayanad or when journeying from Wayanad to Cochin.
