Half day Tour Elephanta Island in Mumbai with guide

Accompanied by a guide visit the Elephanta Island to see the ancient rock cut caves. The caves have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island is located in the middle of Mumbai harbor 9km northeast of the Gateway of India, the motor boat ride takes 1.5hrs each way

The Elephanta Island was so named by the Portuguese, after the statue of an elephant near the landing area of the island. The entire cave temple complex covers a large area consisting of a main chamber, two lateral ones, courtyards and several subsidiary shrines. The caves contain stone carvings dating back to the 5th century. The carvings are dedicated to Hindu gods. One of the highlights is an imposing large carving of Shiva 6metres in height.

When you ready to leave after having explored the island fully proceed to the jetty to take the scenic motorboat ride back to Mumbai.
