Traditional Bronze Making Centre
Detailed Map Swamimalai
Swamimalai is located 8km west of Kumbakonam and is revered because it is one of six sacred homes of Lord Murugan. Lord Murugan was Shiva’s Son and according to Hindu Mythology he became his father’s religious teacher on a hill (Malai) at this place. The site of this role reversal is now the home of the Tamils’ holiest shrine. The Swaminatha Temple is located on a hill top in the centre of the village. This is also the location of many bronze-casters workshops. They are dotted around the bazaar and outlying hamlets.
